Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has been the leader of the bowling attack in Tests and ODI for his national side. Since making his debut in 2010, he has played 77 Tests, 110 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. Over the years, Starc has avoided playing in the T20 Leagues after playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015. Also, at the time of the IPL, the two-time World Cup winner takes some time off the game.

This year too, the left-armer did the same and is fresh to go ahead of the World Test Championship final against India. Ahead of the summit clash, the New South Wales player said that earning money is fine but it’s nothing compared to playing international cricket. He added that he would love to play 100 Tests for the Kangaroos.

“To choose not to do certain things to prolong playing for Australia, I’ve tried to be smart about that,” he said in a conversation with Cricket Australia. “Yeah, the money’s nice, but I’d love to play 100 Test matches. Whether I get there or not, I don’t know, but that would be a nice one to tick off. Hopefully there’s a little bit left in me.”

Playing all formats for over 10 years involves a lot of pain – Mitchell Starc

The 33-year-old further added that playing all formats involves a lot of pain for the body. Since his injury in late 2015 that resulted in him missing the 2016 20-20 World Cup, Cricket Australia has been careful about his workload and the selectors and team management have been careful about this ever since.

“To play three formats for over 10 years, it’s been a lot of pain along the way, but I’m grateful I’ve gotten that far,” he says.

“Whilst I’ve tried to add to the bow, as soon as I lose air speed, there’s going to be someone chasing me. Once that next left-armer is coming through, yeah, I’m sure I’ll know when I know.”
