It seems that the Asia Cup 2023 will be shifted out of Pakistan entirely although they will remain the hosts. In a recent report, the likes of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan have joined the bandwagon rejecting the Hybrid model alongside India. For the unversed, the Hybrid model was proposed keeping India’s inability to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.

As per this model, teams such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal could play in Pakistan. On the other hand, India could have played on a neutral venue. Things might have gone the way PCB wanted only if they didn’t suggest UAE as the option. Apparently, a month after the continental tournament, ODI World Cup will be played in India. Teams would want their players to remain fit for the showpiece event.

This is the reason the likes of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Cricket Boards objected to the idea. At the same time, the Lankan board offered to stage the tournament entirely at home. They cited tropical weather in the month of September to be conducive for players. In the UAE, the weather remains humid, especially during the daytime. Now, PCB can either accept to play in Sri Lanka or pull out as reported a short while back.

After Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan may lose Champions Trophy 2025 too – Reports

Meanwhile, Pakistan will also the Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is making a return after the Green Brigade won it in 2017. Eight years back, the tournament was scrapped to make way for the World Test Championship. However, a couple of years back, the Apex Council revived it, handing the 2025 hosting rights to Pakistan and 2029 to India.

“There is absolutely zero chance that Pakistan will host Asia Cup. We will also take it to the Apex Council so that the Champions Trophy is also shifted out. For now, Sri Lanka is likely to host the tournament. But a final decision will be taken only at the ACC meeting,” a senior Indian Cricket official close to the development told InsideSport.
