In Tuesday’s action in the Women’s T20 League, Delhi were up against the UP side next. Both teams won their first games in the tournament. However, that perfect record for UP came to an end on Tuesday as the two strong-looking teams face each other at the DY Patil Stadium.
UP won the toss and decided to field first. Delhi, on the other hand, accepted UP’s invitation to start the game with the willow wholeheartedly as they continued from where they left off against Bangalore in their campaign opener. Delhi reached the magical figure of 200 once again as they closed off their innings at 211/4 at the end of their 20 overs.
Skipper Meg Lanning opened the batting and remained their highest scorer with 70 off 42 balls. She, alongwith Shefali Verma, constituted a 65-run opening partnership setting the tone for the middle-order batters. In the end, Jen Jonassen’s quick-fire 42 off 20 balls put the curtains on another spectacular batting display from Delhi. For UP, Shabnim Ismail, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Tahila McGrath, and Sophie Ecclestone returned with a wicket each.
Tahlia McGrath’s brilliant knock went in vain
Chasing the target, Jonassen, after her brilliant batting display, showed her bowling ability as well and took out the main threat of Alyssa Healy quite early, and along with Marizanne Kapp, she left the UP-based franchise reeling on 31/3. They only managed to get 33 runs in the powerplay, and from there it was just too much to do. Tahlia McGrath played a brilliant knock and went on quite an onslaught there at the end, but even so UP finished short by 42 runs and Delhi clinched their second win of the season.
On a positive note, the Women’s T20 League on Wednesday will see Bangalore face off against Gujarat. Both teams have been winless so far in the league having played two games each. However, that winless run is bound to end as the two look to get off the mark in the league’s inaugural season with the important clash in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.

Tahlia McGrath is a star, nobody gave value to.
I keep saying Lanning is the greatest leader from Australia just because of her attitude.
