The Indian team has one of the biggest bench strengths, but a stable team is also important. Finding a consistent player to play the role of third fast bowler is one of the team’s problems. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have filled the first two spots, and they have tried a few options for the third spot. The top contenders for this role are Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur.
In the first T20 against West Indies, India opted to go with Kumar and Chahar as their main fast bowlers. (Bumrah and Shami have been rested for the series). Sunil Gavaskar has called out that these two playing together is very important to find the third seamer for the team when Bumrah and Shami return.
Speaking on Star Sports, the former Indian skipper also added that Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi will have a similar aim in this match. Yuzvendra Chahal has been India’s leading spinner in white-ball cricket for a while now. His form has not been the best recently, but India does not have too many experienced options in this department. However, he did well in the two games that he played in the ODI series on a pitch that assisted spinners.
Ravi Bishnoi, on the other hand, made his debut for India. He has performed well for Punjab in the ITL, which has led to him being selected in the Indian team. He also was a part of the ODI squad but did not get a game to play.
India is currently in preparation for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The defending champions Australia will be hosting the event in October this year. The last edition was a one to forget for India as they failed to move ahead of the group stages.
