David Warner retired from Test Cricket last week after his final Test against Pakistan in Sydney.

Veteran Australian opener David Warner revealed that a book would be published soon. He mockingly implying that it may be as long as 2000 pages. Raising eyebrows, the daring left-handed batter also disclosed that his novel will have many intriguing turns and twists.

Since making his debut in 2009, Warner has undoubtedly become one of Australia’s greatest match-winners. But he has also generated controversy and a reputation for being notorious on the pitch. The New South Welshman was involved in a number of scandals. But none more so than the Cape Town scandal involving the manipulation of Newlands balls.

In an interview with Prairie Club Fire podcast hosts Adam Gilchrist as well as Michael Vaughan, the charismatic opener revealed the details of his book. He said, “There’s definitely a book in the pipeline, and I think it will be an interesting read. There’s going to be a lot of things in that book that I think are going to raise some eyebrows.I’ll have to edit a few chapters now. There’s a few more that have been added. It was 1500 pages, now it’s probably 2000.”

Cricket Australia conducted an inquiry into the Newlands incident back in 2018. They discovered that the left-hander served as the mastermind, giving Cameron Bancroft the order to use sandpaper.

After failing to halt it, Steve Smith, the captain at the time, and Warner received one-year bans from international cricket. Meanwhile, Bancroft was given a nine-month suspension.

“There’s been a lot of speculation” : David Warner

The opener went on to say that he is reluctant to write anything that will cause strife on the team. He said, “It’s something that’s been thought of (discussing Newlands in the book) … it does keep getting brought up, and there’s been a lot of speculation, a lot of comments about it.”

The Delhi Capitals opener added, “It’s really important that the Australian cricket team is in a great space, that we’re playing well in all three formats, and I think that’s the utmost priority.”
