Manchester United and Portugal player Cristiano Ronaldo has penned down an emotional note for his late son on his social media handles. Ronaldo and his wife Georgina Rodriguez were expecting twins before the latter was taken to the hospital on April 18. However, Rodriguez gave birth to a girl while the boy died. After the tragedy, the Portugal player took to social media to announce the death of his son.

While expressing his pain, he acknowledged that his newborn girl will give the couple the strength to live during such a difficult moment. He also thanked the doctors and nurses for their care and support. The 37-year-old concluded by requesting some privacy at this point.

“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” said Ronaldo in his statement.

“We want to thank the doctors and nurses for their care and support. We are devastated by this loss and request privacy at this difficult time. Baby, you are our angel. We will always love you,” concluded the Portuguese football star.

On the other hand, Manchester United, the club he plays for, has expressed their solidarity on Twitter.

“Your pain is our pain, Cristiano,” Manchester United tweeted. “Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”

His former side, Real Madrid had issued a statement on their website saying that the team president and Board of Directors deeply regret their former players’ loss.

“Real Madrid CF, its President and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of one of the children that our beloved Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, were expecting. Real Madrid joins the grief of the whole family and wants to show them all our love and affection.”
