‘Chalo Dilli walo, agle saal milenge’ – Fans react as PBKS eliminate DC with 31-run win in IPL 2023

With a doubleheader on Saturday, May 13, the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) returned to business. In the day’s opening match, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 7 wickets thanks to an outstanding batting display. The Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings squared off in the second match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Talking of the second game, the home team won the toss and elected to field first. They restricted Punjab Kings to a total of 167/7 inside 20 overs, with opener Prabhsimran Singh scoring a masterful 103 off 65 balls. It was a complete one-man show for the Kings as the second-highest scorer, Sam Curran, managed just 20 runs off 24 balls. For DC, Ishant Sharma returned with two wickets, while Axar Patel, Praveen Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar returned with one wicket apiece.

Prabhsimran Singh and Harpreet Brar remained the stars for PBKS

In reply, the Delhi Capitals started off strong. The opening stand between Phil Salt (21 off 17) and David Warner (54 off 27) yielded them 69 runs in 6.2 overs. However, Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar spun a web around DC batters that they couldn’t evade. From 69/1, they were 88/6 in no time.

For DC, Harpreet Brar remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/30 in his four overs. At the same time, Rahul Chahar returned with two wickets, conceding 16 in his four overs. Impact player Nathan Ellis also picked up two as Delhi Capitals could only manage 136/8 in their 20 overs, handing PBKS a 31-run victory.

Next, on Sunday, viewers will be treated to another doubleheader in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The opening match will be a must-win contest between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Similar circumstances will exist for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second game, which will be played at the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) home, the Chepauk stadium.
