In the 41st game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings played host to Punjab Kings at M Chidambaram Stadium. Ahead of this game, both teams were coming off a loss. CSK lost to Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur while Kings lost to Lucknow Super Kings at home in Mohali. Both games were reverse fixtures for both, Super Kings and PBKS.

Meanwhile, in the game, the home team won the toss and elected to bat first given it was a day game and humidity levels were high. The Chennai openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put together 86 runs for the first wicket in 9.4 overs. The former scored 73 off 31 balls before being stumped out by Jitesh Sharma off Sikandar Raza. Shivam Dube came in and played a cameo of 28 runs off 17 balls.

The likes of Moeen Ali (10) and Ravindra Jadeja (12) played cameos too. Meanwhile, Conway batted throughout the innings and scored 92 not out. Their skipper MS Dhoni scored two sixes in the last over to finish on 200/4.

In reply, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side got off to a great start with their skipper and Prabhsimran Singh put together 50 runs in just 4.2 overs. In the fifth over, after hitting a boundary, he got distracted by the movement of spectators in front of Dhawan (28). That somehow resulted in his wicket. On the other hand, Singh wasn’t distracted as he scored 42 off 24 balls.

However, after his wicket, the scoring went down for a few overs and the team was reduced to 129/3 in 15 overs. During this phase, they lost the wicket of Atharva Taide, who played well against LSG. Meanwhile, in the 16th over bowled by Tushar Deshpande, Liam Livingstone scored 22 runs to take the game close. After his wicket, Jitesh Sharma (21) and Sam Curran (29) ensured that the team remains in the chase. On the last ball of the game, Sikandar Raza needed to get three runs to get over the line. He did the needful and the team won by four wickets.
