Pakistan are going through in what can be called the worst phase of their cricketing history. To add more, the Babar Azam-led Pakistani team lost the Test series against England 3-0 and failed to make an impact, post losing to the Three Lions in the finals of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Amid the rumoured rift with Babar, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chief was sacked with Najam Sethi taking over.
Post taking over, Sethi said that the Raja regime ended and claimed that the old faith will be restored under his guidance. Further, Sethi tweeted that it was important to bring back the old glory and make Pakistan great again.
“The cricket regime headed by Ramiz Raja @iramizraja is no more. The 2014 PCB constitution stands restored. The Management Committee will work tirelessly to revive first class cricket. Thousands of cricketers will be employed again. The famine in cricket will come to an end,” Sethi tweeted on December 22, Thursday.
Shahid Afridi appointed as interim selection committee’s head
As things stand, the chief of the PCB announced the interim selection committee for the New Zealand series headed by former Pakistani cricketer Najam Sethi. Haroon Rashid will act as the convenor and it remains to be seen if the selectors would make some aggressive changes to the Pakistani squad.
“I am pleased to announce, with immediate effect, an Interim Selection Committee for the New Zealand tour. It comprises Shahid Afridi (Chief Selector), Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar, with Haroon Rashid as Convenor,” Sethi announced on Saturday.
For the unversed, the Pakistani team would take on the Tim Southee-led Kiwi brigade for a two-match Test series set to get underway on Monday. The fans, on the other hand, would be hoping that the team would change things around post the sepulchral outing against the Three Lions.
