India is set to host the ODI World Cup from October 5 to November 19 in the country across a dozen venues. However, the Indian Cricket Board is struggling to announce new fixtures due to poor scheduling. After Ahmedabad, the police in Kolkata have expressed security concerns while hosting a World Cup game.
Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is set to host Pakistan vs England match on November 12, but the latest development has raised concern over the game. The administrative authorities have been reached out to by the Kolkata police as they raise concerns over security arrangements. The reason behind the issue is yet to be revealed, but it creates a ruckus among fans.
It’s worth noting that earlier, Ahmedabad police asked the Indian Cricket Board to reschedule India vs Pakistan match due to security issues. The police department informed the board that due to Navratri, it is very difficult to secure two major events in the city. After this, the Indian board has delayed the iconic match by a day. However, the official schedule has yet to be updated.
The Indian Cricket Board is satisfied with the arrangements at Eden Gardens
Meanwhile, a 21-member logistics and administrative delegation of the Indian Cricket Board and Apex Cricket Council reached Eden Gardens on Saturday. The delegation inspected the grounds and stadium to ensure arrangements for the marquee event. It also asked them to fulfil some requirements, which the CAB chief assured them of.
It’s worth noting that Eden Gardens is set to host some iconic games in the upcoming World Cup. On November 5, India will face England on the ground, while Pakistan will face them on November 12. Eden is also going to host a semifinal, while another one will be hosted at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The final game of the marquee event will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
Here is how fans react to the Kolkata police’s security concern:
I’m struggling to think of a WC that has been more shambolic in its organisation. I hope things improve once the cricket gets going. The players and fans deserve a professionally run tournament.
With all the resources at it’s disposal, this must be so embarrassing for the BCCI.

Bcz of #Kalipuja and #Diwali the security deployment will be an issue for Eng v Pak match in Kolkata. That's understandable but how #BCCI is handling this #CWC23 schedule thing being the richest board in the world is absolutely pathetic ??#CricketTwitter

What a great planning from bcci, we still don't have complete schedule. Icc should not give any icc event to India if they can't even give a schedule 2 months before world cup
