The Indian Cricket Board has finally taken it upon itself to change the course of Indian cricket which is going through a rough patch of form at the moment. The Men in Blue have failed to win a major title since 2013 which has put a huge question mark on the efficiency of the board and the talent of the players.

Recently the Rohit Sharma-led side failed in the Asia Cup 2022 as well as the 20-20 World Cup 2022 as well. Following poor performance against Bangladesh in the ODI, the board decided to do a performance review meeting with the core members, including Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, and Jay Shah.

There were multiple announcements made after the meeting which are aimed at bringing India the ODI World Cup trophy scheduled to be held at home in 2023. The board has revealed a 20-player list, the players from which are deemed to be highly important for Indian World Cup hopes. The board will work with the Indian T20 League to make sure these players are not run to the ground before the World Cup. The names on the list however are yet to be announced publicly.

“It was a very constructive and fruitful meeting where we have reviewed the past performance and planned for future events, including World Cup and World Test Championship (WTC). We will give preference for international cricket while making sure the IPL is not diluted,” an Indian Cricket Board source, who attended the meeting, said.

A major part of the meeting revolved around players’ fitness and their workload management now that the Indian T20 League season is right around the corner.

“The issues of player availability, workload management, and fitness parameters were also discussed at length during the meeting along with the roadmap to the Cricket World Cup 2023,” the Indian Cricket Board said.

There will also be no compromise on the fitness aspect with the Yo-Yo test being the chief criterion. “The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of selection criteria and implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players,” the Indian Cricket Board said in a statement after the meeting.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the Indian Cricket Board giving justified focus to the ODI World Cup 2023:
