Roger Binny and Rajeev Shukla

The Asia Cup 2023 will be conducted in a hybrid model with Sri Lanka and Pakistan co-hosting the event. The opener featuring Pakistan and Nepal is set to be played on August 30 in Multan. Earlier, it was reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board sent out invitations to the board heads of the member associations to attend games in Pakistan.

This included the Indian Cricket Board’s honorary secretary Jay Shah. However, according to the latest updates, the Indian Cricket Board has nominated President Roger Binny and Vice President Rajeev Shukla to represent the Indian Board in Pakistan. The duo of Indian Cricket Board officials will travel to the neighbouring country via the Wagah Border on September 4. They’ll not be present for the opening ceremony or the opening game in Multan.

Roger Binny and Rajeev Shukla are invited to an official dinner

Team India open their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Both Binny and Shukla will be present for the game and will then return to India the next day. Following this, they are expected to attend a special official dinner hosted by the PCB at the Governor House in Lahore along with their spouses. They will attend the game on September 5 between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

Notably, Pakistan will only host four games in the tournament which includes three group stage games and one game in the Super 4. The Super 4 games are scheduled in Sri Lanka because of India’s high chances for qualification. Interestingly, Pakistan and India could face off thrice in the continental competition. First, in the group stage, second in the Super 4, and finally in the final. However, the final two games depend on qualification from both teams.

Here are the Matches scheduled to be played in Pakistan:

  • Pakistan vs. Nepal in Multan on August 30
  • Bangladesh vs. Afghanistan in Lahore on September 3
  • Afghanistan vs. Sri Lanka in Lahore on September 5
  • 1st Super 4s match in Lahore on September 6
