Gujarat Titans lost the game against Mumbai Indians but won hearts of the fans.

Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans

In the 57th game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians hosted Gujarat Titans in a reverse fixture against each other. Ahead of the game, the defending champions were coming off two back-to-back wins. On the other hand, the home team, MI was coming off a win against Royal Challengers Bangalore at home. Not to forget, in the previous game between GT and MI, the Hardik Pandya-led side won heavily.

Meanwhile, in this game, the visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the bowlers had a poor start as MI skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan put together 61 runs in six overs. In the seventh over, Rashid Khan took out both openers. Last match hero, Nehal Wadhera, got out after getting 15 runs against Khan. At 88/3, debutant Vishnu Vinod and Suryakumar Yadav put together 67 runs.

In the end, the latter scored his first IPL century and helped the team reach 218/5. In the last few overs, Yadav scored massively which became the difference in the end.

Rashid Khan’s innings ensured Gujarat Titans didn’t lose badly

In reply, the Titans had a poor start as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They lost five wickets for just 55 runs. Akash Madhawal took two wickets while Jason Behrendorff, Kumar Kartikeya, and Piyush Chawla took one each. At this stage, the likes of David Miller and Rahul Tewatia took some risks and tried to take the team close. However, Madhwal trapped David Miller for lbw.

After this, the team lost two more wickets with Chawla and Kartikeya one each. At 103/8, the five-time winners had the opportunity to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR). It was (-0.255) before the game. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph put together 88 runs for the ninth wicket with the former doing most of the scoring. The right-hander scored an unbeaten 79 off 32 balls including 10 sixes and three sixes.

From 103/8, the defending champs ended with 191/8 and MI lost another opportunity to improve their NRR. They won the game by 27 runs.
