England and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder, Ben Stokes has headed home to prepare for the Ashes 2023, starting next month. The team ensured their place in the playoffs after thrashing Delhi Capitals by 77 runs. Thanks to their Net Run Rate (+0.652), the former champions finished second in the points table, behind defending champs, Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, in an Instagram post by CSK, they posted an update about Stokes leaving the tournament.

“Home bound for the national duty! ????. We’ll be whistling for you, Stokesy! Until next time! ??? #WhistlePodu #Yellove ?,” the post was captioned including the England Test skipper’s photo in the Super Kings’ practice kit. Taking about the two-time World Cup winner’s participation in the ongoing 16th season, he played the first two games of the tournament. A heel injury kept him out for most of the league phase.

Chennai Super Kings had high hopes from Ben Stokes after the auction

Meanwhile, the New Zealand-born entered the auction at a base price of two crores INR. For the first time since 2021, Stokes was meant to play in the cash-rich league. Teams such as Rajasthan Royals (his former side), Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Super Giants, and Sunrisers Hyderabad were bidding for him. However, at 15.25 crores, CSK entered the fray and won the bid at 16.25 crores.

After the bidding, the team CEO expressed their delight and even claimed that after MS Dhoni, Stokes will lead the franchise.

“Very excited to get Stokes and we were lucky also because he came up at the end. We wanted an allrounder and MS was very happy that we got Stokes. Captaincy option is there but it’s a call MS will take with time. Kyle Jamieson was injured so maybe many others didn’t look at him. We had information from Fleming that he had recovered and was raring to go. CSK looks bright and I hope we do well this season. We follow the process always and that will help us do well,” CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan said after the player auction last December.
