India vs England Day 1 first Test

Day 1 of the much-anticipated Test between India and England ended in a position where the Indian team sat in the driver’s seat. After sharing the first session, the host came back strongly and won both sessions to take away Day 1 of the first Test. The day started with England skipper, Ben Stokes winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitch 80 runs for the first wicket

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal launched a strong attacking display in their 1st innings. They forged an 80-run partnership before Rohit fell to Jack Leach’s delivery, scoring 24 off 27 balls. The hosts concluded Day 1 with just one wicket down, reaching 119/1 and trailing by 127 runs. Shubman Gill and Jaiswal remain at the crease. Jaiswal, unbeaten at 76 off 70 deliveries, eyes his second Test hundred, having hit three sixes and nine fours.

Among England’s spinners, Jack Leach stood out apart from both Tom Hartley and Reehan Ahmed looked toothless in their bowling spells. Especially, Hartley who was smashed all around the ground by Yashasvi Jaiswal in his debut for the England team. England would be hoping that their spinner to come good on Day 2 as they have a lead of just 127 runs.
