Bangladesh all-rounder becomes Member of Parliament after epic victory during Elections

Bangladesh had a tournament to forget when they participated in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan, the all-rounder for Bangladesh, is well-liked across his homeland, and this was confirmed when he emerged victorious in the general elections and was elected to the parliament. The left-handed batter was running for the elections representing the town of Magura, reportedly received an astounding 1,85,388 votes in his favour, according to a Dhaka Tribune report.

Shakib Al Hasan was favoured by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to win the elections handily. She wished him success on his campaign and used the metaphor of striking a six. She said, “You do not need to give a speech. You can hit a six, and you can take wickets with the ball. Just hit a six again in the election.”

The Awami League, Hasina’s party, easily won the election and currently has 223 seats in the nation’s parliament. This is allowing them to establish government once more. AFP questioned Shakib Al Hasan during his campaign to find out whether his short break from cricket was only because of the elections or if he had no intention of playing again.

The all-rounder stated that he never considered giving up on playing international cricket. While giving the response, giving the impression that he was unimpressed by the query. He said, “Did I retire? If I haven’t retired, then where does this question come from?”

Shakib can fill any function that has to be filled on the pitch. He is an excellent fielder who can rack up an enormous number of runs and  deceive batters easily.

Bangladesh Cricket’s traumatic ODI World Cup 2023 run

Following weeks of drama between Shakib and Tamim Iqbal, it was actually the former who captained Bangladesh during the 2023 World Cup after the latter was deemed injured.

Bangladesh experienced a traumatic World Cup, as Shakib was unable to rekindle the amazing 2019 World Cup form. They only lost to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka and came in eighth place in the league phase table.
