The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is just a few hours away from its commencement. Defending Champions Gujarat will take on one of the most successful teams of the tournament Chennai in the season opener. The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the match between the two teams.
MS Dhoni and his Chennai team have arrived in Ahmedabad for the first match. An image of the team captain from the airport has been circulating on the internet. Fans, meanwhile, expressed their excitement to see Dhoni back in action after almost a year.
In the meantime, the team members of Chennai were seen practising at their home ground, Chepauk for a couple of weeks before arriving in Ahmedabad. This is the first time since 2019 that the team will play in front of their home crowd.
The crowd was seen chanting for their favourite player, Dhoni, in one of the viral videos on the internet. The Chepauk Stadium crowd erupted in applause as the 41-year-old walked into the centre. After a long wait, Chennai fans will be eager to see the Men in Yellow take centre stage at their home ground.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament was not played in its regular home-away format for three seasons. The entire 2020 season took place in the UAE, while the first leg of the 2021 season began in India before being postponed and relocated to the UAE. The 2022 season was held at four different venues in Pune and Mumbai.
