The Pakistan Cricket Team will be playing the first semi-final match of the 20-20 World Cup against New Zealand on 9th November 2022 in Sydney. So far, it has been roller coaster ride for the Men in Green in the tournament. They began their campaign with two consecutive losses against India and Zimbabwe. It looked like they wouldn’t qualify for the knockouts.
However, South Africa’s defeat against the Netherlands opened the door for Babar Azam and Men as their last Super 12 match against Bangladesh became a virtual quarter-final. The Men in Green defeat Bangladesh by 5 wickets to secure their place in the semis.
Despite not playing to their potential in the tournament, Pakistan have managed to reach the semis. They would be looking to win the tournament now but Babar Azam’s form would be a major concern for them.
The Pakistan skipper has failed miserably in the tournament. He looked low in confidence and never looked like making an impact in the middle. In 5 matches, Babar Azam has managed only 39 runs at a strike rate of 61.90. His low returns with the bat haven’t allowed Pakistan to make a good start in the power play.
In the first match against India, Babar got out for a golden duck, followed by 4-run each against Zimbabwe and the Netherlands. South Africa didn’t allow the Pakistan captain to stay too long either as he made just 6 runs in 15 balls. In the last match against Bangladesh, Babar Azam consumed 33 balls in scoring 25 runs before getting out.
Amidst this, the fans and cricket experts have called for his demotion in the batting order and want him to bat at number three. Netizens have trolled him brutally on Twitter and some even wanted to be dropped from the playing XI.
