‘Australia se na ho paayega’ – Fans react as Australia collapse from 259/0 to 367/9 in match against Pakistan in ODI World Cup 2023

Australia

Australia suffered an incredible collapse in the match against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023. From 259/0 after 33.4 overs in one stage, they collapsed to 367/9 in their 50 overs. In their last 16.2 overs, Pakistan conceded only 108 runs and claimed 9 wickets. It showed how good the comeback was from Pakistan bowlers after conceding a lot of runs in the first 33 overs of the match.

Opting to bowl first, Pakistan fell prey to Australia’s dynamic aggressive duo of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Pakistan had themselves to blame as they dropped crucial catches at regular intervals, including two of them off Warner. One of them came in the powerplay, where Warner was not set. It hurt Pakistan badly, as Warner went on to score 163 runs.

On the other end, Marsh was at his fluent best. The aggressive batter scored a hundred for himself on his birthday by scoring his first hundred in the ODI World Cup. The duo added 259 runs in 33.5 overs. Both of them scored runs for fun, despite the spinners getting a lot of turn on the surface. It looked as if Australia was going to get more than 400 runs, given the start they got.

Shaheen Shah Afridi claims a five-wicket haul

However, the incredible turnaround from Pakistan helped them to make a comeback in the match. Shaheen first got rid of Marsh. The very next ball, he got the wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Usama Mir dismissed Steve Smith. Despite getting a life, Smith could not do much. David Warner was undone by Haris Rauf. Josh Inglis could not impress much and was dismissed by Rauf. Pakistan then cleaned up the tail well to gain further advantage towards the end.

Rauf dismissed Labuschagne, who came at number 7. Shaheen got the wickets of both Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. The left-arm pacer was very good with the ball and claimed a five-wicket haul. The bowling efforts of Pakistan bowlers in the last 16 overs meant that Australia ended up scoring 367 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. It was a bad collapse for Australia.
