Thanks to the Indian spinners, Australia were under pressure throughout their innings in their ODI World Cup 2023 clash. They were all out for a mediocre total of 199 in Chepauk, Chennai. However, whatever edge India may have had from their play with the ball as well as the field was almost completely offset by the dreadful start they had with the bat.

India found themselves in trouble at 2/3 in 2 overs as Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer all went down for ducks. Hazelwood took a double-wicket maiden in the first over of his spell. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc sent back youngster Ishan Kishan in the first over of the innings.

Earlier, Mitchell Marsh was taken out by Jasprit Bumrah off the second delivery of the third over, signalling the start of Australia’s troubles. As that, Australia appeared to be in control as Steve Smith as well as David Warner added 69 runs off 85 deliveries. Unfortunately, Warner eventually succumbed to Kuldeep Yadav for 41 runs off 52 deliveries.

Two of Jadeja’s three wickets, which he took for a total of 28 runs, fell during the same over. While Ravichandran Ashwin only took one wicket, Kuldeep Yadav took two. Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, and pacer Bumrah all contributed to the wickets. In addition to getting rid of Marsh, Bumrah also got rid of Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins. Siraj and Pandya each got a wicket, showing the strength of Indian bowling.
