Young Indian team prospect Jitesh Sharma is not as skilled as prominent middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav, he claimed that he continues to seek ways to gain insight from the latter’s batting.
Since making his international cricket debut, Suryakumar Yadav has dominated cricket’s shortest format. He has played for India in 48 T20I matches and possesses a strike rate that is above 175 overall. Unquestionably one of the greatest T20 batsmen of all time, Suryakumar Yadav has been leading the T20I Batting Rankings for a very long time.
“I am just trying to observe Suryakumar Yadav.” : Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma spoke with the Indian Express about developing his style of play. The wicketkeeper-batter claimed that he is studying Suryakumar Yadav’s videos, known as India’s Mr. 360, in order to pick up tips from him. He said, “I am just trying to observe Suryakumar Yadav. Main unke jitna skillful nahi hoon (I am not as skillful as him). But I am watching his videos on how he manipulates the field, how he plays those risk-free shots. I am just trying to learn from his batting. Everyone has a different skill set. I am just trying to explore my game and make it 360.”
The Vidarbha wicketkeeper continued by saying that because his contributions to his team are so crucial, he is also working to maintain more composure while maintaining wickets. He said, “I am trying to be calmer when I am keeping. As a wicketkeeper, my feedback is very important for the team. When you are keeping for so long, you can’t bring sudden changes in your skillset. You can do minor adjustments.”
Punjab Kings middle order batter claimed he now has many well-wishers and appreciated the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his recognition. He said, “IPL has given me recognition. Life has changed for sure, but nothing drastic. I have started receiving more phone calls and text messages. I see it as a privilege that you are getting recognition. I have seen when you are going through a bad phase, no one wants to talk to you.”
