With the series on the line, India and Sri Lanka clashed in the 3rd T20I on January 8th. Both teams were coming into this game with a win and both looked properly poised for another.
India won the toss and chose to bat first this time as opposed to the second match’s decision. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill came onto the pitch with the intent to bat with aggression.
Kishan however couldn’t bring out his best as he was out at just 1. Gill with his 46 and Rahul Tripathi with 35 off 16 moved the scoreboard along but Suryakumar Yadav who came in at number 4 gave another boost to the run rate.
In just 51 balls Yadav made a humongous 112 and took India to a massive 228/5 in 20 overs. Axar Patel who has been having a great season also came good with the bat as he made 21 off 9 balls with 4 fours.
Coming onto chasing the huge total, Sri Lanka got a good start with Pathum Nissanka (15) and Kusal Mendis (23) getting the scoreboard going. Indian bowlers however soon got their mark on the game as Patel dismissed Mendis and Arshdeep Singh removed Nissanka in quick succession.
Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal then brought their magic onto the pitch and broke Sri Lanka’s backbone. Captain Dasun Shanaka tried to take the game in their favour but could not this time as he was Arshdeep Singh at just 23 runs.
In the end, the target proved a dream too far-fetched and India dismissed the entirety of Sri Lanka batting at just 137/10.
