Asia Cup 2022 Schedule announced, India vs Pak match to be played on 28th August
The Asia Cup 2022 is all set to begin on 27th August
After much speculation, the schedule for the Asia Cup 2022 has been finally announced. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Jay Shah took to his official Twitter Handle to post the schedule of the tournament. The tournament will be played in the T20 format this year and is all set to begin on 27th August and the final of the mega event will be played on 11th September. A total of six teams will be seen participating in the tournament namely Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
One more team will make its way through to the competition after a qualifier round which will be held just a few days before the actual tournament starts. The qualifier round will see four teams battle against each other which are UAE, Kuwait, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
The tournament was earlier going to be hosted in Sri Lanka but was later moved out of the country due to the ongoing political and economic unrest in the nation. U.A.E was announced as the new host with the hosting rights remaining with Sri Lanka Cricket.
The most awaited match of the competition between India and Pakistan will be on 28th August in Dubai starting at 6:00 pm IST. The fans might get to see the mouth-watering contest once again during the Super 4 stage of the tournament.
The teams have been divided into two groups with Group A having India, Pakistan and the winner of the qualifier round. While Group B will have Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Teams will face once against each other in the group stage and the teams finishing at the top 2 positions in the group will qualify for the Super 4 stage of the tournament.
Teams will once again play one game against each other in the ‘Super 4’ stage. The teams who finish at the top two positions will face off in the final on 11th September.
All the matches will be played at two venues namely Dubai and Sharjah. India are the currently the defending champions of the Asia cup. They have also won the coveted trophy most times having won the seven editions of the tournament out of the total 14 editions so far. Sri Lanka have five titles to their name while Pakistan have two.
