Star speedster Shaheen Afridi is having a great season leading the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). With six victories in their first seven games, the Qalandars are now leading the league, and Shaheen has taken the third-most wickets this season with 10 scalps in seven games. Shaheen led the Qalandars to PSL success in the 2022 season, and the team is again emerging as favourites for the current campaign.

Talking about the young pacer’s exceptional captaincy skills, former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq praised him, noting a quality in the pacer’s leadership that, in his opinion, generally manifests itself after years of service in the position. “Shaheen’s ability to foresee things is brilliant. He’s using all of his resources, even if he doesn’t need them. It’s like keeping your gun polished, so it isn’t broken when you need it the most,” Misbah said.

“They didn’t need David Weise, but Shaheen bowled him effectively. Sikander Raza also bowled, and so did Hussain Talat. Shaheen has a long-term thinking, and one usually gets that after a long period of captaincy. He’s only in his second season as captain, so that’s something special,” he added.

Reacting to Misbah’s statements, Shahid Afridi revealed that Shaheen revealed the same reasoning to him even before the former Pakistan skipper decoded it.

“I don’t think Misbah has talked to Shaheen, but I’ve been in touch with for the past 2-3 days. Jo Misbah baatein kar raha hai, Shaheen ne mujhse ki hain (Whatever Misbah is saying, Shaheen told me the exact same things.) He said that he wants to use everyone, so they remain confident in big games,” Afridi said.

Notably, Shaheen’s Lahore Qalandars, who are also the defending champions of the PSL, became the first franchise to advance to the Pakistan Super League 2023 playoffs after defeating Multan Sultans by 21 runs on Saturday.

Here’s how fans reacted to the praises around Shaheen’s captaincy:
