Virat Kohli, with 1065 runs in the 20-20 World Cup, is the leading run-scorer in the tournament of all time and with an average of 88.75. And the incredible batter overtook the record from Mahela Jayawardene on the back of his well-crafted 64 during the Bangladesh clash on November 2, Wednesday. 

Right after the batter broke the record, his all-time supporter and wife, Anushka Sharma, took to Instagram to express her delight at her husband’s feat and came up with multiple stories for the Indian great. With his blistering innings against the Bangla Tigers, Kohli also became the leading run-scorer of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 with 220 runs. In addition to it, the batter has been dismissed only once and it came during the clash against South Africa on Sunday.

Brilliant mate, congratulations: Jayawardene

The Sri Lankan legend, who was impressed by Kohli’s record, said that his records were meant to be broken and was delighted as it was Kohli who broke it. Congratulating the Indian superstar, Jayawardene admitted to Kohli’s valiance and said that he has always been a warrior. 

“Records are meant to be broken. Someone was always going to break my record, and it’s you, Virat. Brilliant mate, congratulations. You’ve always been a warrior. Form is temporary but class is permanent. Well done, buddy,” Jayawardene said in an official video shared by the Cricket’s governing body. 

The Indian superstar, after winning the Player of the Match award against Bangladesh on Wednesday, said that he knew of his potential and added that he was in a happy place during the close game. “I didn’t want little mistakes to curb my instincts. I am in a happy place. I don’t want to compare it with the past,” said Kohli in the post-match interview.  

“As soon as I knew the WC is in Australia, I was grinning from ear to ear. Good cricketing shots will be the key here is what I know. Hitting through the line is what I do in every format. It is just an extension for me,” he added.
