The Indian team has got its preparation underway for the upcoming 20-20 world cup in the ongoing Asia Cup. The Men in Blue have made a great start to the tournament having won both of their matches so far. Despite having a good run in the tournament, the Indian team have still got many boxes to tick before their opening match in the world cup on the 24th of October. In this article we will be taking a look at three major issues for the Indian team that they need to work on before the mega tournament in Australia:

Form of the top order

The Indian top order is having a dismal run of late. The trio of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have been going through the worst phase of their career. Rahul is making a return to the team after an injury that kept him out of the team since the home South Africa T20 series in June. Rohit, on the other hand, has been struggling with form as he’s averaging just 23 in the year so far with just one half-century in 15 games.

After struggling for the entire year across formats, Kohli finally showed some positivity at the crease in the last match against Hong Kong. The batter played with intent and didn’t shy away from hitting big shots. The Indian team desperately needs the trio to be in the form before the mega tournament as they plan to go bonkers right from ball one.

Settling with the spin

The spin department of the Indian team didn’t have an impact in the crucial matches of the last year’s world cup. The team management will be eager to settle with three top-quality spinners in this year’s squad. Since the grounds in Australia are bigger, the wrist spinners are expected to be lethal in the tournament.

India has two wrist spinners in their squad in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi. The other option in the spin department will be Ravindra Jadeja, who will bring his all-round abilities onto the table as well. The team also brought Ravichandran Ashwin back into the squad for the recent T20I series against West Indies and the Asia Cup. However, the finger spinner hasn’t played any game in the Asia Cup so far. The Indian team will have to decide their three spinners quickly as there are just 10 more matches to go before the world cup.

Death Bowling

The other cause of worry for the team is death bowling. The bowling attack, which includes youngsters like Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan, gave away plenty of runs at the death in both matches in the Asia Cup. The problem would be fixed when Jasprit Bumrah comes back into the squad. But, the team management needs to finalize who will bowl at the most crucial stage of the game. Will it be the talented youngster Arshdeep Singh? or will it be Bhuvneshwar Kumar?
