The intrigue around Virat Kohli and his form are very significant. Everyone wants to know about what is going on with the former number one batter and what is the reason for his drastic drop in form. The former Indian captain looks like he is right back into form as he hit an assured 59 off of 44 deliveries against Hong Kong in India’s second match of Asia Cup 2022.

In an interview with Star Sports before the start of the tournament, Kohli had opened up about his struggle with mental health and the need for a break.

The former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has come up and given his opinion on the issue. He also believes that Kohli would be back among runs during the upcoming T20I World Cup in Australia later this year.

Speaking to the Review show of the International Cricket Board, Ponting said, “When I saw his runs and then I’ve read on social media over the last few days, it sounded like he found himself in quite a dark place. Like a lot of us men, he wasn’t willing to talk about it and share it.
“It sounds like when he has started to share, started to talk, it might have just freed him up a bit and he started to feel better about himself again,” believes Ricky Ponting.

“I just hope that we see him back at his best and in the World Cup. I’d rather see Virat come out here (in Australia) and be one of the leading players in the tournament, but just make sure he doesn’t score many runs against Australia when they play,” concluded the 47-year-old.

After defeating Pakistan and Hong Kong in their two group matches, India has qualified for the Super Fours. India defeated Hong Kong by 40 runs in their last match on the back of an emphatic performance from Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. Afghanistan has also qualified for the Super Four stage, defeating both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in their group. Two more seats are to be filled for the next stage.
