Two blockbusters were scheduled on the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) last league stage match day. In the opening match, Mumbai Indians faced off against Sunrisers Hyderabad, who had already been knocked out, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The defending champion Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore would play in a thrilling second match later in the day.
Speaking of the first game, the captain of the Mumbai Indians chose to bowl first after winning the toss. As the SRH openers pounded Mumbai bowlers all over the park at the opening of play, it appeared to be a bad choice. Mayank Agarwal (83 off 46) and Vivrant Sharma (69 off 47) put together a big 140-run opening partnership. In his commanding performance, Agarwal notched up eight boundaries and four maximums. Aiden Markram, the team’s captain, scored 13 off 7 and Heinrich Klaasen scored 18 off 13, bringing the total to 200/5 in 20 overs.
Cameron Green’s 100* of 37 remained the standout knock for MI
They appeared to be more than on course for a much higher total at one point in the innings. Therefore, credit for maintaining run-flow should go to MI’s bowlers. The best bowler was still Akash Madhwal, who finished with a 4/37 in his four overs. Chris Jordan claimed the other Sunrisers wicket that was lost.
In response, MI suffered a cheap loss in Ishan Kishan but bounced back to score 60 runs during the powerplay thanks to Cameron Green. The team total increased from 20/1 to 148/2 because to the 128 run second wicket partnership between Green and Rohit Sharma (56 off 37). In the end, Green (100* off 47) and Suryakumar Yadav (25 off 16) helped MI cross the finish line with 12 balls remaining and a lead of 8 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Dagar each brought back a wicket for SRH.
The start of the playoff rounds for the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League will occur on Tuesday, May 23. Notably, the three teams that have already qualified for the IPL 2023 Playoffs are the Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants. Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rajasthan Royals are vying for the last spot. The outcome of the games for MI and RCB will determine the fate of the final Playoff qualifier while the Royals have completed all of their games.
