The Pandya brothers squared off at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League 2023 between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. Over 400 runs were scored in the contest, thanks to some great hitting from both teams.
LSG skipper Krunal Pandya elected to bowl first after winning the toss. Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, was pleased to bat first in the day game. The GT openers lit up the stage immediately, as they appeared to be in top form. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha built on their last batting success with a magnificent 142-run stand for the first wicket.
Saha was the aggressor in the first few overs of the innings, while Gill took his time settling in. The 23-year-old quickly got his stride and joined his partner in taking on the bowlers. Each of them reached their half-centuries in the partnership, but Saha fell short of his well-deserved hundred. He scored 81 runs in 43 balls.
Gill, on the other hand, continued in his assault. He had the full support of Pandya (25) and David Miller (21) and was going on every bowler that came his way. He, too, was denied a well-deserved hundred because he was stuck at the non-striking end. Gill scored 94 runs in 51 balls as Gujarat Titans recorded a score of 227/2 on the board, including two boundaries and seven sixes.
Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock give LSG a strong start
In the chase, the defending champions also got off to a blistering start, with Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock, playing his first game of the season, dealing in boundaries. After being dropped by Rahul Tewatia early on, Mayers made the most of his chance as he took his team to a score of 72 runs in the powerplay.
After Mayers (48) was dismissed in the ninth over, the Titans slowed down. A slew of wickets hampered their chances as they could not keep up with the run rate. Half of their side was sent back to the dugout for a score of 153 in the 18th over.
LSG was ultimately limited to a score of 171/7. Despite a strong start, LSG was defeated by GT by 56 runs. Mohit Sharma got four wickets for the winners, while Noor Ahmed, Rashid Khan, and Mohammed Shami each took one.
