After being predicted by Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting to rule the IPL, Prithvi Shaw had an interesting year in 2023. He had a forgettable campaign, scoring just 106 runs in 8 games. Additionally, he was entangled in the Sapna Gill scandal, which was obviously detrimental to the young opener.
The former India U-19 World Cup team skipper silenced his detractors with a scorching performance of 244 runs while playing for Northamptonshire in the English One-Day Cup.
I want to win the World Cup for India: Prithvi Shaw
The 23-year-old recently spoke up about being let go from the Indian team, saying that he wasn’t informed of the reason for his rejection. Shaw stated that he was informed that his lack of selection was a consequence of his fitness, however, he added that he had passed the required fitness tests.
Prithvi Shaw spoke to Cricbuzz and said, “When I was dropped I didn’t get to know the reason. Someone was saying it could be fitness. But of course, I came here [to Bengaluru] and cleared all the tests at the NCA, again scored runs and again came back to the T20 team.”
The youngster also expressed his aspirations, adding that he wished to represent the Men in Blue for 12–14 years and that he wanted to help India win the World Cup. He added that “All the hard work is just for that. That is the one dream – I want to play, for at least 12-14 years for India. I want to win the World Cup for India.”
After more than 500 days, Shaw was called up as part of the Indian team in January of this year. Despite being chosen for the T20I squad, he was unable to participate in the series versus New Zealand. The young player was then called up once more, but the same thing happened, therefore the ODI versus Sri Lanka in July 2021 will remain his final outing for India.
Look at how fans reacted to Prithvi Shaw’s statement:
Prithvi Shaw said, "when I was dropped from team India, I didn't get to know the reason. Someone told me it could be fitness, I cleared tests at the NCA, again scored runs, but didn't get a chance in WI. I'm disappointed, but you just have to move on". pic.twitter.com/u6mF9lkad6

He needs to score runs in IPL which has more challenging bowling attacks to get attention from selectors. Tilak, Rinku recent examples. But, Prithvi is even getting dropped from his IPL playingXI after so many low scores.
