In the ongoing India vs Pakistan game in the Asia Cup 2023, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul wreaked havoc on their opposition. In the ongoing game, the Men In Blue lost the toss and were asked to bowl first on September 10. They had a great start as skipper Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58 put together 121 runs. However, as both got out, the team was reduced to 126/2.
After the seven-time winners batted for 24.1 overs, the rain interrupted the match. Even though it stopped and came back, some watery patches inside the 30-yeard circle also played a role in the game going into the reserve day (September 11). In the ongoing day, the likes of Kohli and Rahul didn’t even have any mercy for their opposition. Ahead of the resumption, Haris Rauf picked up a strain which is why he couldn’t bowl.
This led to the Babar Azam-led side having tough times in the field with not having an effective spin bowler. Shadab Khan has been struggling with the ball for quite some time. On the other hand, there was no other spin bowling option. Iftikhar Ahmad bowled a few overs as overs.
Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul put together an unbeaten 233 runs for the third wicket
Resuming from 145/2 in 24.1 overs, the duo didn’t let the opposition come back in. Also, there were some captaincy blunders from Babar Azam as well. Meanwhile, both players scored a hundred each and kept attacking the opposition bowlers. They ended up putting 233 runs for the third wicket in just 196 balls (32.4 overs). Rahul wouldn’t have played this game if not for Shreyas Iyer pulling up back spasms.
Thanks to them, the former champions reached a massive total of 356/2 at the end of the innings. Kohli, in this process of scoring 122 not out, became the fastest to reach 13000 ODI runs. On the other hand, Rahul scored 111 runs and it was his first ODI hundred against Pakistan. Given the pressure he was in, the innings was special for him and the team.
