Shikhar Dhawan, the out-of-favour India opener, thinks Suryakumar Yadav ought to be selected for India’s No.4 berth at the World Cup due to his performance and experience in international cricket. Dhawan further emphasised the team’s excellent chances in the competition due to a good mix of youth and experience, as well as the benefit of playing at home.
Prior to the World Cup, the number four slot within the Indian ODI squad will be up for grabs because of the lack of clarity on Shreyas Iyer’s availability for the World Cup. The front-runners are Suryakumar Yadav as well as Sanju Samson, however, R Ashwin thinks rookie batsman Tilak Varma may also be a fine option.
We will have the home advantage: Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan spoke to PTI during an exclusive conversation and said that “I would go with Surya at four as he is an experienced player and has been playing international cricket for a while. Also, really looking forward to seeing how Shubman Gill does in the World Cup. Another batter to watch out for will be Rohit Sharma as he did exceptionally well in the last World Cup.”
The Punjab Kings skipper then spoke about the Indian team’s chances for the upcoming ODI World Cup at home. He said, “We have got a very good side which has the right blend of experience and youth. We will have the home advantage. We know the grounds and pitches and that is going to come in very handy.”
Due to his absence from the Indian team since December 2022, Dhawan now has a lot more free time. He spends a lot of time working on his business endeavours, which are all part of the Da One Group, in addition to improving his health and game.
He said, “It is important to be productive. We live quite a high-paced life, especially when you are playing all formats like I used to at one point. Now I have enough time, so I keep myself involved with my business interests.”

100% agree
and we will see his x factor power in Asia cup— Abhishek Pandey ??#RB (@AbhishekPandeyK) August 10, 2023
Yeah, SKY is no fit to be in ODI's. Let him play T20 happily . Bring Rinku or Tilak in that case . KLR is better off in ODI at 5
— Raghunathan (@raghurnathan) August 11, 2023
I think Shikhar can be tried at number 4 as well, if we can try Rahul at 5 why not we can try Shikhar at 4 in the Asia cup & AU series, He has been a champion for us in the ICC tournaments

I don't understand why everyone has a fascination with SKY in ODIs. Even he admitted that he hasn't been able to understand the game, but this relentless backing. Favouritism at it's peak.

Wish Shikhar could have played as a opening patner of Rohit…. He is still a good prospect for the ODIs ..

Shreyas will take no 4 , no 5 is Rahul, and u r our back up opener so come back
— MN KEERTHAN (@mnkeeru18) August 10, 2023
if he cracks how to play that format he’s clear of anyone at 4
— WembySZN (@house_of_spurs) August 10, 2023
Iyer at 4 and sky at 6 will be perfect – Considering pandya bowls 10 overs
— Rohit Sharma (@rohitsharma2503) August 10, 2023
Seeing how hardik is batting these days, it would be a good option to promote him at 4 instead of Sky
— Sourav (@_dsourav_) August 10, 2023
If Shreyas does not fit then Tilak can fill the 4th place.

Earlier he backed gill, now he's backing surya… But no one is backing him?
