ODI World Cup 2023

‘Aagaya Hasan Ali wapis’ – Fans react as Pakistan announce ODI World Cup 2023 squad

Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the 2023 ODI World Cup following his injury during Asia Cup 2023

The PCB taken stock of a dismal Asia Cup campaign, which caused a few days’ delay in the unveiling of Pakistan’s World Cup roster. Finally they have announced their 15-man final squad for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Hasan Ali has taken the place of Naseem Shah on the 15-person World Cup roster, which is an expected change. At the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, Naseem Shah suffered a shoulder injury  while playing against India. The youngster is anticipated to spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines.

Babar Azam will lead the Pakistan side in his first ever major world 50-over competition. Abdullah Shafiq, Fakhar Zaman, and Imam-ul-Haq make up the major core of Pakistan’s World Cup team, providing a strong top order.

Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, and Haris Rauf have also made the team. Mohammad Wasim Jr, Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Salman Ali Agha make up the rest of the 15-man squad.

Pakistan squad for World Cup 2023:

Babar (C), Shadab (VC), Fakhar, Imam, Abdullah, Rizwan, Iftikhar, Agha Salman, Saud Shakeel, Nawaz, Shaheen, Rauf, Hasan Ali, Usama Mir, Wasim Jr

Pakistan’s poor Asia Cup 2023 performance

Pakistan are set to be part of the ODI World Cup 2023 following a disappointing Asia Cup campaign. The team, which many predicted would win the competition, finished last in the Super Four rankings. The Men in Green suffered 228-run defeats to India and a 3 wicket defeats to Sri Lanka.

The absence of Naseem and Haris, who left the game against India in the middle, was greatly resented by Pakistan, whose prospects of winning the title ultimately depended mainly on their outstanding pace attack, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The PCB came to the conclusion that Naseem and Haris’ injuries were the consequence of an improperly managed workload, primarily because the players participated in franchise leagues, during an assessment of how the team performed during the Asia Cup on Wednesday.
