Report: Five hour sea journey makes many Bangladesh players sick and some vomit

Bangladesh lost both Test matches against West Indies.

Bangladesh are currently touring West Indies for an all-format cricket series. They have already played two Test matches and have lost both of them under the captaincy of Shakib Al Hasan. Wanting to get the Test loss behind them, the Bangladesh team prepared for the first T20I match in Dominica.

Interestingly, the team took a 180 km journey through the sea from Saint Lucia, the place of their last Test match, to Dominica. The Bangladesh cricketers were apprehensive about the task at hand and seemed reluctant. Their fears came true when many Bangladesh players fell sick during the uncomfortable sea journey.

A recent report says that many Bangladesh cricketers vomited and felt nauseous throughout the journey. “The waves started as soon as the ferry reached the mid-sea. The ferry wasn’t big so six to seven feet high waves were enough to make it rock wildly. The waves felt fierce while crossing the dolphin channel”, said the report.

Bangladesh as well as West Indies cricketers, commentators and journalists were making the journey to Dominica on that ferry. It was the Bangladesh player Shoriful Islam, Nurul Hasan and manager Nafees Iqbal who were the worst affected by the journey. A cyclone that hit the Caribbean cost a couple of days back seems to be the reason for the bad weather.

The report further added, “Nafees and Nurul recovered a little in the 40-minute break in Martinique but Shoiful again got sick in the journey from Martinique to Dominica. He vomited multiple times.” It is also reported that the ex-West Indian pace bowler, Curtly Ambrose did not join the fellow commentators Athar Ali Khan and Ian Bishop for the journey.

“We are the ones who can fall sick and die here, us, nothing will happen to them (the board officials)”, a cricketer was quoted as saying. Another player said, “I have toured many countries, this is the first time I am experiencing something like this.”
