After playing the Indian T20 League 2022 and T20I series against South Africa at home, the senior Indian team has finally set its foot in a foreign land. The Indian team will be playing one Test, 3 ODIs, and as many T20 internationals against England.
The tour is set to start with a rescheduled Test match, to be played from 1st to 5th July 2022. The Indian Cricket Board announced the squads for the T20I and ODI series on Thursday. Notably, the selectors have picked two squads for the T20I series.
The players who are participating in the fifth Test, have been given rest for the first T20I. They will be back from the second T20I onwards. The likes of Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Venkatesh Iyer, and Arshdeep Singh will make way for Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah for the 2nd and 3rd T20 internationals.
Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, who has been ruled out of the fifth Test match, will be available from the first T20I onwards. Notably, Umran Malik, who made his debut against Ireland, has been picked for the T20I series against England. Punjab pacer, Arshdeep Singh has received his maiden call-up in the ODI format.
The six-match limited-overs series starts with a T20I on 7th July in Southampton. Before the first T20I match, however, the Indian team would also play the second T20I warm-up game against Northamptonshire on 3rd July. All the eyes are currently set on the 5th Test, starting on July 1 in Birmingham.
