After his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) ends in the summer, Kylian Mbappe will be free to leave the team. The forward will leave the Parc Des Princes after six years of residence.
Ever since Mbappe, 25, has been a target for several teams, summer window rumours have dominated the transfer landscape. The former AS Monaco player has drawn a lot of interest from Spanish teams, especially Real Madrid, who had an offer turned down in 2022.
According to The Athletic, Kylian Mbappe informed PSG chairman Nasser El-Khelaifi of his decision to quit the team when his contract expires. The move would save the club about €200 million, and it will be used to nurture younger players.
Mbappe’s refusal to undertake contract negotiations resulted in his exclusion from the club during the summer. The striker gave up his €80 million loyalty incentive in exchange for being added back to the team.
After establishing communication with Mbappe, Real Madrid is the front-runner to capture the attacker in the summer transfer window. The Spanish powerhouses are reportedly nearing an agreement to sign the attacker in their biggest summer transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
With six years to shatter the club record for goals scored, Kylian Mbappe will depart PSG as a legend. He came to the team from AS Monaco in 2017, and in 290 appearances for the Parisians, he has tallied 243 goals as well as 105 assists.
Kylian Mbappe and PSG overcome Real Sociedad
On February 14, PSG overcame Real Sociedad during the first leg of their Round of 16 UEFA Champions League match thanks to a goal from Kylian Mbappe. The French champions, who qualified with Borussia Dortmund, just about avoided elimination from the competition’s group round.
In the first exchanges, Real Sociedad nearly equaled PSG, preventing the French team from having any obvious opportunities at home. Two minutes before the hour, Mbappe’s goal—his fourth in the tournament this season—broke their resistance.
