Feather in the cap moment for Mohammed Shami –
India’s star pace bowler and one of the best bowlers of this era, Mohammed Shami has earned a huge accolade. On Tuesday the 33-year-old received the Arjuna Award from the Indian President herself.
With 24 wickets from just seven matches, Mohammed Shami lit up the 2023 ODI World Cup. The 33-year-old began with two fifers in three games including 5/18 versus Sri Lanka in Mumbai.
His best haul came during the Semi-Finals against New Zealand where he recorded India’s best figures in ODI Cricket. The right-arm pacer picked 7/57 to help India reach the finals but his dreams were broken. Travis Head’s century meant that Australia won the game by six wickets to win their sixth ODI World Cup.
During his chat with the Times of India, Mohammed Shami revealed he is working hard on his fitness. India’s star pacer also said that he will be fit in time to take on England in the Five-match Test Series.
“My rehabilitation is going well and the medical experts are happy with my progress. There is slight stiffness in my ankle but that is fine. I have started my training sessions and I will be able to make my comeback during the England series” Shami said to the newspaper.
In his absence, India decimated the South African batting during the Cape Town Test. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah picked six wickets in either inning to play a role in the shortest-ever Test.
Speaking about the Indian bowler’s success Shami said to the Times of India “We did well in the second Test, everyone pitched in and our bowling unit was brilliant. It was a brilliant comeback by India to level the series. Unfortunately, I missed it because of injury but I want to get back to cricket as soon as possible”
