Rishi Sunak, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, is set to attend the India vs. England ODI World Cup 2023 game at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. On October 29, the game will be held at the Ekana Sports City stadium.
In conjunction with current negotiations between the two nations on a free trade agreement (FTA), British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is reportedly considering visiting India towards the end of October, according to persons with knowledge of the proceedings.
According to two of the aforementioned individuals who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Indian as well as British officials are now holding the fourteenth round of negotiations in New Delhi after coming to a wide consensus on 24 of the proposed trade agreement’s 26 chapters.
According to the sources, Sunak will probably proceed with the visit if the conversations progress further. In their second match of the ODI World Cup 2023, Team India is now playing Afghanistan. They are without their young opener Shubman Gill, who is out due to injury. The 29th match of the competition will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium between the Men in Blue and the reigning champions England.
The two parties stated they were looking into the possibilities of the visit taking place around October 28, but nothing has been formalised yet, implying that the visit is dependent on the successful completion of the significant FTA.
Roughly 24 from the 26 chapters of the FTA are claimed to have been finalised by the two parties, and they are now working to seal it by finding common ground on certain sensitive areas, such as immigration reform and reducing import taxes on specific goods.
India and UK’s growing ties over the years!
During the India-UK virtual summit featuring Modi along with his at that time British counterpart, Boris Johnson, in May 2021, the bilateral relationship was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The two sides agreed on a 10-year roadmap during the summit to further their cooperation in a number of crucial sectors, including climate change, people-to-people exchanges, defence and security, and commerce and economics.
