India’s 2023 ODI World Cup began with a game against Australia on Sunday. The game at Chennai was played in front of the cricket-crazy fans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. It was a huge game for both teams as they met for the 13th time in ODI World Cup history.

Jarvo is a known name in India as the super-fan from England became infamous in 2021. It was during India’s 2021 tour of England that Jarvo first grabbed the limelight. The Englishman was making frequent runs into the ground much to the amusement of many fans.

Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first. Shubman Gill was the notable absentee for the Indian team. The youngster had failed to recover in time after being tested positive for dengue. The Australians came into the game without Marcus Stoinis who hadn’t healed from his hamstring issues.

The Indian and Australian teams were in the middle of a heated battle in hot and humid Chennai conditions. The fans roared with delight as they saw the familiar face of Jarvo running into the ground. The man from England was stopped in his tracks by the security before being spoken to by the Indian team.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul could be seen speaking to Jarvo as the security took him away. This caused a slight pause in play but the crowd was lapping up the drama they were witnessing.

Asked to bowl first, India began well with Jasprit Bumrah getting Mitchell Marsh out for zero. Former India skipper Virat Kohli took an amazing catch diving to his left to get India its first wicket.

Steve Smith and David Warner then added 69 runs for the second wicket in 85 balls. The pair put away the bad balls from the Indian bowlers. The two also ran well between the wickets as Rohit Sharma looked lost for ideas.

Kuldeep Yadav then got the big wicket of Warner when he held on to an easy return catch. The Australian opener was out for 41 which came off 52 balls with 6 fours in his knock. The Indian spinners had kept the visitors in strict stranglehold on a wicket assisting the slower bowlers.
