In the highly anticipated finals of the Caribbean Premier League 2023, the Guyana Amazon Warriors clinched their maiden CPL Trophy. With a resounding nine-wicket victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders, Guyana ended their ten-year trophy quest. Guyana won the match amazingly by riding on their extraordinary bowling performance followed by a clinical batting display.
After a convincing victory, Guyana skipper Imran Tahir thanked ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for his support and encouragement before the tournament. Tahir revealed how he was mocked by trolls after becoming captain. However, he revealed that Ashwin supported him and said that he could do it.
“Many thanks to Ravi Ashwin. Before the start of the season, he told me that I could do it and win the CPL. Many people made jokes when I was made captain,” said Tahir in the post-match presentation ceremony. It’s worth noting that Tahir had an amazing time in the tournament. He took 18 wickets in 13 games at an average of 15.44. Tahir was the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, just two wickets behind teammate Dwaine Pretorius.

Meanwhile, Ashwin also made an amazing comeback in the One Day Internationals. In the ongoing ODI series against Australia, he made a comeback after 20 months and has been phenomenal with the ball. Ashwin clinched four wickets in two games with an economy rate of 5.18. It’s worth noting that in both games there were high-scoring encounters. Ashwin’s performance with the ball has been phenomenal; however, he didn’t get a chance to bat.
Axar Patel is set to be out of action due to a hamstring injury. Ashwin is likely to replace him in India’s final ODI World Cup squad. In the third and final match against Australia, Ashwin might get some batting chances if skipper Rohit Sharma makes a bold decision. However, ahead of the prestigious World Cup, team management will look to check all boxes during the game.
