Bangladesh and New Zealand are in the middle of a short ODI series. The three-match-ODI series began on Thursday. The first match of the series was washed out due to rain. The second match of the series took place in Dhaka on Saturday.
It is an important tune-up for both teams ahead of the ODI World Cup in India. New Zealand have sent a second-string side led by pace bowler Lockie Ferguson. New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first as both teams were unchanged.
The game saw high drama towards the back end of the New Zealand innings. Ultimately, “Spirit of Cricket” prevailed as Bangladeshi skipper Litton Das won the hearts of cricket fans across the world.
Ish Sodhi is called back after being run out at the bowler’s end –
Hasan Mahmud was bowling the 46th over of the Kiwi innings. The drama unfolded in the 4th ball as Mahmud ran in to bowl. The Bangladeshi bowler spotted Ish Sodhi out of his crease and ran the batter out.
The umpires gave it out after the bowler appealed. The batter Ish Sodhi wasn’t happy as he was seen clapping in a sarcastic manner. Bangladesh skipper Litton Das then went to umpire Marais Erasmus and called Ish Sodhi back. There was more drama this time happy ones though as Hasan Mahmud and Ish Sodhi shared a hug.
Batting first, New Zealand were struggling at 36/3 in the 8th over. Mustafizur Rahman removed opener Will Young for a duck and Finn Allen for 12. Khaled Ahmed then got Chad Bowes for 14.
The innings recovered thanks to a 95-run stand for the 4th wicket between Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell. The stand was broken when Nicholls was out for 49 runs. Tom Blundell was the top scorer with the bat for the visitors. The wicket-keeper scored 68 runs off 66 with 6 fours and a six.
Ish Sodhi scored 35 crucial runs batting at number 8 to help New Zealand reach 257. The Kiwis were bowled out with 4 balls left to play in the innings. Khaled Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan picked 3 wickets each for the hosts.
