The latest addition to Liverpool’s midfield is Dominik Szoboszlai, who has confidently asserted that the Reds can defeat Premier League champion Manchester City this year.
The Cityzens, who have won five league titles in the previous six years, including the last three, have dominated English football. Only Liverpool has been able to stave off the City assault, and they won the league in 2019–20. With the exception of last season, they have regularly pushed Pep Guardiola’s team. The Reds concluded the season without a trophy and in fifth position in the standings.
Despite the fact that Jurgen Klopp’s team has to significantly improve, Szoboszlai is optimistic that they will be prepared to compete with Manchester City once more. The Hungarian midfielder said when asked which side will finish ahead of City this season. He answered, “Us… It’s not a joke, I am thinking it. I always think that way even if it is hard.”
After two games, Liverpool has enjoyed a respectable start to the season and is two points off of fifth-place Manchester City.In their opening match of the year, the Reds drew a 1-1 draw versus Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. After that, they defeated Bournemouth 3-1 at Anfield after Alexis Mac Allister’s 58th-minute dismissal.
Against Bournemouth, Szoboszlai received the Player of the Match award. By triggering his £60 million release clause earlier this summer, the Reds were able to sign him away from RB Leipzig.

Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgian midfielder, gave a ranking of his top three players in the Premier League during a Sky Sports interview. The Belgian also ranked the Liverpool captain higher than Thiago Silva, Lisandro Martinez, and Virgil van Dijk.
He said, “Rolls-Royce. He’s got everything. Obviously I know him well but he’s got right foot, left foot, speed, height, he’s a leader. Thiago [Silva] is also amazing, but I just think Virgil’s got that little bit more.”
