In the second T20I match against Ireland on Sunday in Dublin, Rinku Singh made his first appearance with the bat for India, much to the delight of England’s Test team coach Brendon McCullum. In his brief, but significant maiden innings, Rinku smashed two fours as well as three sixes to score a 21-ball 38 innings that propelled India to a mammoth total. He received praise for his powerful knock from all quarters, including McCullum.
He’s such a humble guy and a wonderful team man: Brendon Mccullum
The former coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who has observed Rinku up close, is pleased to see the effort bearing fruit. Additionally, Brendon McCullum wished the boy well and said that everyone will be interested in his story.
Brendon Mccullum spoke to The Times of India and discussed the rise of Rinku Singh and the story that he is very much appreciated. He said, “Yes, (it’s) really pleasing because I’ve seen the effort that he’s put in..the scrap and the fight. It’s never come easy to Rinku. He’s had to work for it. Because he’s such a humble guy and a wonderful team man. He’s often easy to overlook, but what we’ve seen from Rinku in the past season and a half of the IPL, and now the opportunity he’s getting for India is that he is extremely talented.”
Rinku Singh won the Player of the Match honour because of his important performance in the match. After failing to get a chance with the willow in a rain-drenched opening T20I against Ireland, it was his second match and his first time with the bat.
The 25-year-old was ecstatic on Sunday night since his 10 years of toil had paid off. Rinku Singh spoke at the post-match presentation after Team India’s series-clinching win. He said, “I am feeling very good,” Rinku said. He added, “I was trying to do what I have done in the IPL. I was very confident and tried to stay calm, I listen to the captain (smiles), I am feeling very nice. I have been playing for 10 years. All my efforts have born fruition. I am happy to get the Man of the Match award in my first game.”
Fans react to Brendon Mccullum praising young Indian batter:
