With Asia Cup 2023 just days away from its commencement, the teams participating in the tournament have started announcing their squads. Bangladesh and Pakistan have already announced their squads for the tournament. The other teams like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, and India are yet to announce their squad for the big tournament. The experts have started to pick their squads for India for the sake of assessment.
According to reports, India is set to announce their squad for the big tournament on the 20th of August. The Indian team is waiting for the Ireland series to check if Jasprit Bumrah is ready to make his comeback in the ODIs. After the match against Ireland, the selectors might get a fair bit of idea about the fitness of the Indian fast bowler. Meanwhile, a lot of reports are claiming the exclusion of key players.
Ravi Shastri, MSK Prasad, and Sandeep Patil pick their combined squad
According to some of the reports, Sanju Samson might not make the cut to the Indian squad of the 2023 Asia Cup. A panel was called to make a potential Indian squad for the big tournament by Star Sports on the show named ‘Selection Day’. The former Indian selectors MSK Prasad and Sandeep Patil were part of the panel along with the former Indian coach, Ravi Shastri.
The panel picked its collective squad for the 2023 Asia Cup. The 15-member squad had the likes of Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Most of the selections were in the expected lines. The only selection which was questionable was Tilak Varma, who has not even played an ODI till now. But the panel gave their reason for the inclusion of the youngster. The veterans did not even pick the unfit players like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, as their availability for the tournament is not yet completely assured. The selection of Yuzvendra Chahal also raised questions.
