‘Kb khtm hogi ye paid holiday’ – Fans react as India thrash West Indies by innings and 141 runs in first Test

Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 171 runs off 381 balls with 16 fours and a six.

India beat West Indies

In the first Test of the India tour of the West Indies, India thrashed the hosts by an innings and 141 runs in Dominica on Friday. Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance with the bat. Meanwhile, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also had a remarkable comeback to the side, picking up 12 wickets in the match.

Earlier on Day 3, India declared their first innings at 421/5 midway through the afternoon session. The West Indies batters were expected to put up a better batting display in the second innings, but they were just not up to the task. The hosts collapsed at 130 all out in 50 overs to ensure a three-day conclusion to the Test match.

Ashwin’s 33rd five-wicket haul in the first innings was followed up by marvellous figures of seven for 71 in 21.3 overs in the second innings, his best in an overseas Test. The outcome was predetermined after the West Indies were bowled out for 150 on the first day. Meanwhile, one of the biggest benefits for India was Ashwin’s blistering comeback after getting dropped from the Word Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final.

Virat Kohli missed his 76th century

Former India skipper Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal started batting on Day 3. Both were looking comfortable with their strokeplay. Jaiswal, in his debut innings, scored 171 runs off 381 balls with 16 fours and a six. Meanwhile, Kohli also batted well and reached his half-century before Lunch.

However, he missed an opportunity to score another international century as he was dismissed by R. Cornwall for 76 runs off 182 balls with five fours. After his departure, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and Ravindra Jadeja batted some balls before Rohit declared the inning. With this victory, India now lead the two-match series 1-0. The second Test of the series will start on July 20.
