Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has made some outrageous predictions for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The Kangaroos are one of the contenders to win the tournament. They have won five times in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. In the previous edition, they lost the eventual champions, England in the semis. Meanwhile, Marsh has predicted that his side will remain unbeaten throughout the World Cup.
Talking about the World Cup, eight out of 10 teams have qualified for the showpiece event. The last two teams will be determined by who reaches the final of the upcoming ODI World Cup qualifiers, possibly in June this year. Just like the 2019 edition, the World Cup will be played in a single round-robin tournament. The top four teams will reach the semis.
“Australia will stay undefeated, defeating India in the final. Australia 450/2 in the final, India all out 65,” Marsh said on a podcast with his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.
Mitchell Marsh was part of the 2015 ODI and 2021 20-20 World Cups
Meanwhile, the all-rounder was part of the ODI World Cup 2015 win at home, beating first-time finalists, New Zealand. In the tournament, he took a five-wicket haul against his Ashes rivals, England. The Three Lions crashed out of the first round in that tournament, after losing to Bangladesh. Four years later, the Eoin Morgan-led side won the title, albeit with a boundary count.
On the other hand, the Aussies won their maiden 20-20 World Cup title in 2021. From 2007 to 2016, they played the final once (2010), and semis in 2007 and 2012. After a wait of 14 years, the Aaron Finch-led side managed to lift the title, once again by beating first-time finalists, New Zealand. As of now, they Yellow Brigade would look for their sixth title in ODI World Cup history.
However, it won’t be easy in the Indian conditions with the home team, the defending champions England giving them a competition as well. Also, the likes of New Zealand and South Africa will be a dark horse too.
