The Indian cricket team is set to face Australia in the finals of the Test Championship 2021-23. Ahead of the all-important match, the team is missing its top players due to injury. However, in a recent report, it has been informed that star India batter Shreyas Iyer underwent successful back surgery. This also indicates that the batter might be available for the upcoming World Cup.
“Shreyas Iyer underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday in London. He walked a bit too yesterday,” Reported the Times of India. He is scheduled to stay sidelined for three months before returning to training, and he should be fully fit for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Notably, Iyer suffered back pain during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy in 2023. He is currently unavailable for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to the injury and is missing the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Iyer is also likely to miss Test Championship final which is scheduled to be held on June 7 at The Oval.
KKR coach Chandrakant Patil believes in Shreyas Iyer
Before the start of the ongoing IPL 2023, KKR announced Nitish Rana as the stand-in skipper in absence of Shreyas Iyer. Though Iyer is unavailable for the next few months, KKR head coach Chandrakant Patil believes that right-hand batter can play some part in the tournament.
Meanwhile, after winning two back-to-back games, KKR lost three consecutive matches in the ongoing season. In their last game, they were thrashed by Delhi Capitals (DC) in a low-scoring match. DC registered their first victory of the season beating KKR by four wickets in the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. KKR will now head to Kolkata where they will host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next game.
