Rajasthan beat Delhi by wickets to claim their fifth win of the Indian T20 League. Jos Buttler was the star of the win as he scored his third century of the season. He smashed 116 of 65 balls to help Rajasthan post a mammoth 222-2 in 20 overs. Buttler got good support from Devdutt Padikkal (54 off 35) and Sanju Samson (46 off 19). This is the highest team score in the Indian T20 League 2022. Buttler stroked nine fours and as many sixes in his innings. Samson and Padikkal scored 155 runs for the first wicket which is the highest opening partnership for Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, Delhi started off cautiously and added 43 runs in 4.3 overs. Warner was looking good before Prasidh Krishna got the better of him for 29. Sarfaraz Khan lost a golden opportunity and was out for 1. Rishabh Pant (44 off 24) and Prithvi Shaw (37 off 27) then took charge and teed off. Both took Delhi’s total to 99 in the 10th over before Shaw was dismissed. Pant was looking threatening but was out in the 12th over, with the scorecard reading 124. Players like Lalit Yadav and Shardul Thakur played a few good shots but the win was out of the equation by then. Notably, Prasidh Krishna bowled a wicket maiden, with 36 off 12 balls, to kill any hopes. However, their was twist in the tale when Rovman Powell hit three sixes on first three balls. The drama didn’t end as Delhi wanted the third delivery to be called a no-ball as they felt it was a waist high full toss. Pant even tried calling his team back. However, that incident disrupted the momentum as Powell failed to hit any more sixes as Rajasthan won by 15 runs.v
Here’s what the skippers have to say
Rishabh Pant –Â I think they were bowling well throughout the game but in the end Powell gave us a chance, I thought that no-ball could have been precious for us but it is not in my control. Yes, disappointed but can’t do much about it. Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close, everyone in the ground saw that, I think the third umpire should have interfered and said it was a no-ball. Obviously it wasn’t right (sending Amre onto the field) but what happened with us is also not right, it happened in the heat of the moment. It was the fault from both sides and it is disappointing as we have seen some good umpiring in the tournament. It is disappointing to go so close especially when the other team has scored 200+. I think we could have bowled much better. I can tell the guys to keep their chin up and prepare for the next one.
Sanju Samson-Â It was a full toss and the batsman wanted a no-ball, but the umpire didn’t give it. We wanted to be around him and wanted to put a smile on his face. Not easy for a bowler after conceding three sixes. We wanted to change the plan so we took our time, to give the bowler a breather. The last game was a tough one, and this game too, with Powell hitting those sixes. It’s important to stay calm and trust your team mates. You need to back yourself. Can’t say anything about the toss. Losing toss is working, so we’ll like to stick to that. Don’t think there was much dew, but the bowlers are experienced enough to bowl in these conditions. Ashwin and Chahal have been bowling well, touch wood we continue to do it. It is normal to drop catches, even I dropped one in the last match. I told the players how to recover from that in the team meeting.
Here are some of the Tweets from today’s game:
Seeing everyone struggle to dismiss Buttler at the strikers end, I think we all now understand why Ashwin chose to dismiss him at the non strikers end 😅 #DCvRR #IPL2022

A team featuring Jos, Sanju, Chahal and Hetmyr with this brand of cricket, is making me root for @rajasthanroyals unapologetically!

The problem was the umpires didn't even bother to check

Pant was absolutely wrong there… Those gestures were surely not in the right spirit of the game.. You win or lose but those gestures of asking the players to come back was absolutely dreadful and awful… Heat of the moment got the better of the youngster.. #IPL2022 #RRvDC
