The Indian Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been at loggerheads for a while now because of the Asia Cup 2023 issue. Jay Shah, the Indian Cricket Board Secretary and Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had said that India will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue. Pakistan had earlier been awarded the hosting rights for the tournament.

At the request of PCB chairman Najam Sethi, an emergency meeting of the ACC was held in Bahrain on the 4th of February. According to recent reports, the tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with Pakistan hosting.

Previously, India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan irritated former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja. Raja went on the offensive, stating that if India does not visit Pakistan, their team will not tour India for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023. However, with the arrival of Najam Sethi at the helm, things began to improve.

I am not sure about our stance for now: Najam Sethi

“Finally, we have a date now to meet ACC officials. I will attend ACC’s meeting on February 4 in Bahrain. I am not sure about our stance for now; I will decide it in the meeting, keeping an eye on the situation,” Sethi had earlier said.

Sethi also provided an update on the Indian Cricket Board’s demand on the row, stating that while they are willing to host Pakistan for the World Cup, they are unwilling to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. “India Cricket Board wants Pakistan to travel to India, but Indian Cricket Board doesn’t want India to play in Pakistan. This is not something new for us,” said Sethi.

In the meantime, fans on Twitter said that they were sure of this happening. “It was on the cards. Asia cup/any cricket tournament without India is like Chicken Biryani without chicken,” a user said.
