Suryakumar Yadav is known for his explosive batting and unorthodox shots in T20 cricket. However, the star batter played a different brand of cricket in the second T20I against New Zealand. He adapted to the conditions and played with caution to guide his team to victory.
Suryuakumar scored 26 runs in 31 balls while chasing a small target of 100 on a big turning wicket. He scored just one boundary in his innings but was eventually named Player of the Match for handling the tough situation well.
After the match, Surya, along with the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, was seen in a video posted by the Indian Cricket Board. In the video, Chahal hilariously said that the star batter adapted to ‘his style of batting’.
“Jaise ye innings thi, matlab jo aap khelte hai 360 wo maine aapko alag sikhaya, lekin is wicket pe aapne jo muje poora adapt kiya, meri batting ko adopt kiya, meri red-ball wali video dekhi thi kya Ranji Trophy ki? (The way you played this innings, you play 360 usually which I have taught you, but the way you adapted to my batting on this wicket, did you watch my red-ball video from Ranji TrophY?),” he hilariously asked.
Playing along with him, Suryakumar also agreed that Chahal taught him to play. “Actually, jaisa aapne muje last series me sikhaya tha, maine wo hi try kiya aaj. Aur mai chahunga ki aap muje aur sikhaye batting, ki mai kaise kar sakta hu aur accha, aur improve kaise kar sakta hu. Viewers dhyan dijiye please, ye yaha pe mazak me mat lena, batting coach hai, sab sikhata hai muje.
(Actually, whatever you taught me in the last series, I tried to do that today. And I would like if you can teach me more about batting, what more can I do, how I can improve. Viewers please be serious, we are not joking here, he is the batting coach, he teaches me everything.),” Suryakumar responded.
